…a series of abstract paintings inspired by the harmonics of space and light of the Alhambra in Spain.
Art historian, Antonio Fernandez-Puertas, writing extensively on the Alhambra has identified the geometric proportional system on which its entire Islamic Nasrid architecture is based: a series of ratios utilising a system of progressive diagonals: √2, √3,√5.
Following through on this idea and using the same proportional system as a strategy, I’ve painted this series in which the interaction of ratio, shadow and reflection is explored.
The works are based on studies made after visiting the site and memories of it.
